Dear Sappho Women festival family,

It is with great regret that – due to the Covid-19 pandemic – our Sappho Women team is today announcing the postponement of our 20th anniversary edition of the International Eressos Women’s Festival, which was scheduled to run from 5th to 19th of September 2020.

Although we won’t discourage anyone from travelling to Skala Eressos and supporting the local economy this summer, we do feel it is important to provide you with clarity regarding the responsibilities of our non-profit company and the strict measures that will be imposed on us and our activities by the Greek government. These measures will affect mass gatherings and will set serious limitations on all of our festival events.

It has become increasingly impossible to plan a festival like ours, especially because the nature of our festival is to bring women from all over the world together in Skala Eressos, where we share our close and intimate friendships with each other, mainly through fun activities such as concerts, shows, parties, workshops, film screenings, excursions and of course so much more. As organisers of our festival, we will be expected to carry all responsibility for the adhering of the strict social distancing guidelines at all of our events, and as such, we sadly do not see that this is either feasible, nor realistic. The seriousness of the situation we are going through, as well as the continued uncertainty of international travel for many of our friends, has therefore brought us to the difficult decision to postpone this years festival. The 20th anniversary edition of our festival will now instead take place on the new dates 11th to 25th of September 2021.

We appreciate that you may have further questions for us and we endeavour to answer your queries as soon as possible over the next days and weeks. Please be informed that information about our options and policies regarding purchased wristbands will be posted on our website on Friday, 22th of May.

We thank you all for your support of the International Eressos Women’s Festival, and very much hope that you will continue to support us, our village, and our local community. In the meantime, please stay safe and healthy. We look forward to brighter days and to seeing you all in 2021!

With love,
Wendy, Ioanna and Liz
