* Since the year 2000 Sappho Travel has created organized and funded the women's festival in Sappho's birthplace, Eressos. In 2006 Sappho Travel statistics indicate that approximately 350 women came to Eressos specifically for the festival, coming from Greece, France Holland, Germany, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland England, Ireland, Spain, Israel, Turkey, United States, Australia and New Zealand.
* The festival is a two week celebration of the special energy women find in Eressos and the sense of home that women feel here. The festival is a meeting place between the community of women who live in Eressos and the women who visit, for the sharing and celebration of talents skills and experiences.
* The festival programme is designed to suit the diverse interests of women, to include live musical and theatrical performances, workshops and exhibitions, water and land sports, a range of healing therapies, meditation practices and workshops.
* For businesses operating in Eressos; the women's festival benefits all businesses. Some businesses are involved in providing festival events and activities and therefore benefit directly from the presence of festival visitors. Other businesses benefit indirectly by providing accommodation food entertainment or other services.
