The village of Skala Eressos has a unique and valuable status within Greece, and on a larger scale in Europe, as being a safe holiday resort and in particular one where women-oriented events take place. Organizing the International Women’s Festival is of considerable importance as well for the village, in that by organizing it, the tourist season in the village is extended for an extra month every year. This directly benefits all of us who rely on tourism as a source of income.

The Festival provides exposure for sponsors through marketing, advertising, media coverage, a variety of promotions, and events. Sponsors are invited to take advantage of opportunities for long-term exposure. Regional sponsors enjoy the added benefit of tourism revenues generated during the festival.

Statistics show us that in 2006 approximately 350 women came to Skala Eressos, specifically to visit and participate in the festival. The statistics of 2007 have shown us that this number increased with more than 50%, what in simple terms means that the amount of women visiting our village doubled in just one year!

The women, who specifically arrange their holiday around the festival dates, come from Greece, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Russia, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Slovenia, Latvia, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Canada, United States, Australia and New Zealand. Early indications are that the number of women expected to visit Eressos during the festival of 2008 will most likely exceed seven hundred this year.

The income which this festival generated in the village of Skala Eressos in the year 2007 can be safely estimated around 400.000 euros. The income itself goes directly to accommodation owners, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, mini markets and all other shops and initiatives which provide services to our guests. The expenses for organizing the festival have in the past 8 years been covered by our office alone. We have not received any sponsoring or funding for organizing the festival.

To give a short summary of costs which our office covers:
• Hire of professional equipment for performances such as stage, lights, instruments, pa systems, mixing panels etc.
• Engagement of participants which includes flights, airport transfers, accommodation, food and artist fees.
• Marketing and promotion of all festival activities as well as the promotion of the village of Skala Eressos as a whole, which includes websites, flyers, posters and memorabilia.
• Expenses generated within the office itself which includes fees for staff, printing, paper, international phone-calls, internet connection.

Although the enthusiasm and thankfulness of all visitors, participants and local businesses is a great compliment and reward for our office, the truth is that we are facing every year an increase in costs which in return is becoming increasingly difficult for us to cover alone.

Starting this year we are welcoming sponsors at all levels – local, regional, national and international. Your financial support will help us to meet the costs associated with bringing performers to the festival, such as flights, airport transfers, and accommodation.

Of course there are many other expenses including programmes, flyers, external publicity, fireworks, space hire, staff, competition prizes, T shirts, equipment hire, venue rental, and rewards for volunteers who give their time and energy free of charge- everything that is required to make the International Women’s Festival ® work for all of us.
