The Herstory Writing Project
Eressos, my home from home- Women’s Festival Herstory Writing Project
Have you been to Eressos more than once? If so please tell us your story, in your own words and in your own language.
The poet Sappho, born in Eressos, established a school for young women on Lesvos in 600 BC. Her legacy has been bringing women to Eressos since the 1950’s when members of Natalie Barnes Paris Salon came here- from that time onwards many women from many different countries have been coming to Eressos at least once a year every year.
What makes you come back to Eressos? Does Eressos give you a sense of home, of returning, of belonging? Is it the special energy of this ancient place? Or is it the beach, the women, the bars, the dancing, the sports?
Perhaps Eressos is a meeting place where you reunite with international friends, or you are drawn back by the natural beauty of the land and the sea. Have your visits here have been life changing? Maybe you have not even consciously thought before about why you come here- you just want to or need to come.
Last year we started to create a book of your stories and received eleven very different fascinating stories from women who have been coming here as early as the seventies to the present time. The project will continue this summer and we will be making contributions received available on line on the festival website for all of you to read. All contributions will be included.
How to contribute your own story-
Maximum number of words- 1000. If you wish please send us a photo of yourself which will be displayed alongside your story. Please give us your name, which country you are from and contact details. Please note- if you wish to make your contribution anonymously, this is ok.
