  • SheBoom - Women Drummers!

SheBoom is coming to Skala Eressos!

Reputedly Europe's largest women's drumming ensemble, SheBoom is an unforgettably dynamic percussion band playing a uniquely infectious mix of Afro-Brazilian, Samba, African, Latin, Celtic and European rhythms. From ages 17 to 50+, SheBoomers are ordinary women who come from all walks of life - artists, actors, musicians, teachers, home-makers, lecturers, doctors, clowns, students, massage therapists, scientists, care workers and social workers. What binds us is our love of making music with drums, loudly.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Women are attracted to SheBoom for many reasons. Some of us are attracted to the idea of drumming. The drum is one of the oldest instruments and has often been forbidden to women - we weren't supposed to play them and they made a lot of noise. Others of us were not so much attracted to just the drumming as to the creative and wonderful energies which comes from making music with other women. Over the years, hundreds of women have been members of SheBoom. Membership figures have fluctuated between 40 to a staggering 107 in 1994. Current membership is around 40.

  • Art Exhibition - the Rainbow Snake

    Dear artists,

We want to invite women artists to exhibit their work in this year’s Arts Route – the Rainbow Snake - as part of the International Women’s Festival brought to you by Sappho Travel.

The annual 2 week festival has proved to provide the opportunity for local and international artists, musicians, performers, entertainers, scholars and therapists to share their talents in all its forms with enthusiasts of all ages. This year promises to be another exciting event, not in the least celebrating its 10th year.

We want to invite artists for the following categories:
    •    TWO DIMENSIONAL ART
    •    THREE DIMENSIONAL ART
    •    LANDSCAPE ART
    •    BODY ART
    •    ART PERFORMANCES / INSTALLATIONS
    •    VIDEO ART

As you may understand this being the 10th Anniversary, there will be lots to organise and put in place, therefore this year we are asking people to apply for a place – the application form can be found here ART-FORM-V.1.1.pdf - and return the form no later than the 1st of August. You do not have to have the work being exhibited completed at this time, we just need to have an impression of your work and a brief concise bio history of you and your style of artwork.

    •    Please note that the decision to include your work is down to the organisers of the arts festival.
    •    The artists are required to show work that has not been exhibited before in Eresos.
    •    The organisers will decide the locations and the amount of pieces and will do their up most to display work in venues that compliment it. (Venues, times and dates for the hanging will be confirmed nearer to the time)
    •    The selected artists are at all time responsible for their art work, the hanging of the work in the location specified by the organisers and the transport to and from Skala Eressos. As the organisers of the arts festival we cannot take responsibility for this.
    •    The artists will take responsibility to display their art work in a professional and respectful way
    •    The organisers are at any time entitled to refuse artwork if it doesn’t meet the above criteria.

This year the International Women’s Festival will contribute to two local charities by organising several fundraising events. We therefore would also like to ask the exhibiting artists to donate 10% of their revenues to the charities of the festival.

Please fill out the form provided and return by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please include 2 photos of your work and 1 photo of the artist.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us by email with your enquiry

    Friendly regards,

    Gerbien Fricke & Kath Hurley

  • DIANA CARTEUR

DIANA CARTEUR TYPE OF ART: Contemporary Art/Mosaics

Diana has lived in the very rural area of the Kampos, situated between Skala and Eressos Village for the last 3 years. She was originally a headmistress at a full time ballet school in England. In her tiny little tumbledown cottage which she shares with various dogs and cats, not to mention budgies in an outdoor aviary and chooks in the garden, she is inspired by her beautiful surroundings and it is her hope to stay in Eressos for ever! Diana is particularly interested in experimenting with the use of colour, and finds the exceptional natural light here a complimentary partner to her first choice of medium – Acrylic paint Diana’s mosaics are produced mainly from the finest Italian tiles. She finds their outstanding colour, sheen and projective powers an absolute inspiration and loves to work with them
