Also this September, Skala Eressos will be the venue for a number of exhibitions of photographs, paintings and drawings from some amazing women.
We are still working out exact venues and details, but can tell you of some exciting new offerings for festival 2007.
Giouli Tzirou
Lifetime
Giouli Tzirou was born and raised up in Thessaloniki where she studied applied mathematics at Aristotelian University. She studied photography in Athens, at the school of Photographic Circle, close to Platon Rivellis. She has taken part in team exhibitions while her photos and her work have been published in the magazine "Epsilon". From 2001 she lives and works in Mytilini.

The circle of life through the human presence, from birth until its deterioration, which prepares the death, and from love to loneliness, is the subject of the series Lifetime in the exhibition of photographs of Giouli Tzirou. The human body, naked in the black_and_white truth of photographic art, is the protagonist of this exhibition...
It is an exhibition - anthem for the human being, originating from the great teachers of anthropocentric photograph by observing the world either with the look of "decisive moment" of Henri Cartier Bresson or with the dew of "directness" of street photographers like Gary Winogrand or Robert Frank. However, in a second level, parallel personal narrations are pointed, that take dimensions internal, almost mystical.

Stephanie Wells
Carved figurines
For me wood carving has always been a hobby. I started when I was seven years old, to help my father, who is a passionate hobby cabinetmaker, in his workshop. Working with little pieces of wood that he had no use for anymore, I loved to make my own little figures. Since then it has always been a part of my life to create figures, and although I do sometimes use other materials such as clay, wood has always been my favourite.
The figures exhibited here are all made during the last 6 years and they are all made using only a normal pocket-knife. They are carved from pre-dried clay or wood. The wooden figures are carved from hazel, mahogany and birch.

Susan Verstege
Water Scenes
I have recently started to live out my creativity by painting, Which gives me great energy. When I paint I often work with a dilemma, that is present in some other area of my life. I start out with an idea of where I want to go, but the creativity, flow and pleasure only comes, when the plan falls apart and I let go of my intellect and trust my intuition. The picture takes over and in this process there is some kind of healing of whatever is on my mind......

I hope that others may find some kind of meaning in looking at my pictures! I am 41 years old and live with my wife Anne in Denmark, Copenhagen.
