Singing Workshop
Stretch your vocal cords, have fun and make beautiful music together. Come and release your voice and sing some heavenly harmonies, Gospel, African and reggae. Open to all, no previous experience necessary.
Carol Prior has worked in the performing arts all her life. As an actress she worked widely in the industry: in fringe theatre, repertory, alternative comedy and television, culminating in her own autobiographical show on Channel 4 (UK) in 1986.
Throughout this time she was continually writing songs for the shows she was performing in. She has considerable musical skills playing guitar, recorders, African drums and percussion.
She has made a number of recordings: "Spirit of the Wind" features 19 songs that she has collected from her travels to music festivals both here and abroad, and "Sweet Inspiration", a CD of songs from her Brighton women's community choir, Vocadonna which she led from 1996 to 2003. In 1996 she formed TROIKA, an all female acappella trio singing songs from all aroung the world. In 1999 she co-founded "SeaSoundSing" an annual Acappella Festival bringing together choirs and other vocal groups to participate in a weekend of busking and performance in the Brighton Festival.
She sings a smogasbord of song for your delectation, on a range of subjects from unwanted hair to self esteem, including songs in Gaelic, Spanish and Punjabi and some that she wrote herself. She has been making a living from singing for the past 10 years: running community choirs and working with with children in schools for the nationally acclaimed Rhythmix project, but wants to get back to her performance roots.
During the festival you will be able to see the many faces of Carol Prior. She is a diva who loves dressing up and there are several performances scheduled in the Sappho Garden of the Arts. Her acts are full of surprises and passion.
Scheduled are a one woman show on saturday the 16th, as well as hosting the weekly cabaret on tuesday evenings and taking part in other garden events.
