Art Exhibitions during the Eressos Women's Festival 2006
Exhibitors & Venues
Jill Butterworth - Margaritari
Jill's main interest is macro photography and her land in Eressos village has become her living studio. Everything has fascination for her, the savagery of the cat about to pounce, the gorgeous but poisonous lilly, the entwined rope of copulating snakes.
Her photographs show people what is at their feet, the hair's breadth they are from beautiful dangerous life. Her work is on display in Margaritary at the beach front.
Myrsinis Tourvali - Elementary School Skala Eressos
Photographer and much loved veterinarian doctor Myrsinis Tourvali from Mytilini has exhibited her work themed "woman" in the Natural History Museum of Petrified Forest in Sigri in the summer of 2006.
During the Eressos Women's Festival she will bring many of her photographs from this exhibition to Skala Eressos. You will be able to view her photographs in the Elementary School.
Karolina Denning - ‘internet@eressos’
Photographer and writer/performer Karolina Denning has lived in Eressos for 5 years.
Her current exhibition ‘Eressos Impressions’ is held at ‘internet@eressos’ and shows Eressos in all seasons and extremes.
Her snow scenes from last winter were shown on the BBC website. 10% of the proceeds of her exhibition sales during the womens festival will be dontated to the animal sanctuary.
Karolina will also be performing some of her poetry during the womens festival, including poems inspired by her relationship to the many cats living here.
Gerbien Fricke - ‘internet@eressos’
Painter and poet Gerbien Fricke who offers life and landscape drawing classes, and poetry performance workshops during the festival has her paintings of elusive yet present female figures in pastel on display in the Internet Shop.
Linda Onassis - Antiopi Hotel
The oil paintings by Linda Onassis give a detailed attention to and catch the essence of landscapes and small things in them. Her extensive work is on display in the Antiopi Hotel for Women.
Alexandra Glossoti - 10th Muse Bar
Greek sociologist and traveller Alexandra Glossoti puts her experiences on film; telling stories from her journeys in Latin America, India and Greece in lyrical and emotionally powerful images.
You can see Alexandra's work displayed in the Tenth Muse Bar
Beatrice Anlauff - Sappho Travel Office
On a larger scale, sculptor Beatrice Anlauff uses Lesvos marble, soapstone and sandstone to create work that explores line and emotion in organic form.
Beatrice is a Master of stonemasonry and stone carving who takes a studio in Eressos every summer.
Christine Leitloff - Antiopi Hotel

Christine Leitloff closed her Berlin jewellery shop to move to Lesvos three years ago.
Also a photographer and painter, Christine is a professional goldsmith who makes classic rings and enameled pendants using precious stones, top quality silver and gold.
She accepts commissions and exhibits at the Antiopi Hotel.
Becky Tebbett - ‘internet@eressos’

Following her Fine Art degree, Becky focused on community projects and work for exhibition. Her work can be divided into two areas, that of 2D animal 'portraits' and Textile Art.
Her work consists primarily of these works; but she is generally interested in the subversion of textiles and traditional textile pursuits; the formation of femininity; lesbian sexuality, and its relationship with textiles as a raw material.
Anjo Kan - Sappho Garden of the Arts
Dutch Photographer Anjo Kan has visited Lesvos Island for many years and has taken an incredible amount of photographs. We are very pleased and extremely proud that we have Anjo's permission to display her work on our website.
Anjo's speciality is botanic photography and you can see her passion for nature in all of her pictures. Her work is on display in the Sappho Garden of the Arts.
